At both the divisional and corporate levels, we continue to stress the importance of increasing our knowledge of the preferences of Skyline homes customers and prospective customers. Our Commitment of Excellence program is designed to help us determine if we are meeting the quality expectations of our manufactured and modular housing customers by asking them to evaluate every aspect of their buying experience. We want to know how well they are satisfied with their new Skyline home and if they are pleased with the professionalism, service and follow-up of the retail home dealer from whom the product was purchased. If they had to do it all over again, would they choose a Skyline home? Would they do business with the same manufactured home dealer? Would they recommend Skyline or the dealer to a relative or friend?

The responses of Skyline home customers are translated into a Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) which is a uniform measurement of the quality of the entire buying experience from the customer's point of view. To date, the results have been extremely useful. We are learning much more about what customers want as well as what they feel they have received. We are developing a detailed understanding of how Skyline and its manufactured home dealers can continue to strengthen their ability to satisfy customers in today's competitive, quality-oriented market. This effort has resulted in improved customer satisfaction, which is Skyline's goal.

Manufactured and Modular homes look like any other conventionally built home in appearance. Both are built to codes which ensure a safe and sound investment. They are built utilizing economical construction techniques combined with a minimum of on site work making both products an attractive housing alternative.

Manufactured (i.e. HUD code) homes are built to a federal building standard, the Federal Manufactured Home Construction Safety Standards. (Factory built homes manufactured prior to the HUD code are referred to as "mobile homes") The HUD code regulates the design, construction, structural durability, transportability, fire resistance and energy efficiency of a home. It also prescribes performance standards for the mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. Manufactured homes are built and shipped on a permanent chassis.

Modular homes are constructed to the same code as site-built homes with requirements set forth by state and local government for the specific locality. Various model building codes serve as the basis for most state code requirements. Examples include the International Residential Code (IRC), Uniform Building Code (UBC) and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Modular homes may be built on a permanent chassis or a returnable carrier system.

Efficiency starts with factory assembly line techniques. Both Manufactured and Modular homes are assembled in the controlled environment of a manufacturing facility. In this process, your home travels to workstations where the various components are assembled. Work is never delayed by weather, contractor no shows or missing material.

Consistent quality begins with care for detail. Both Manufactured and Modular homes are inspected frequently at the assembly plant during each phase of construction. In-plant inspectors as well as independent agencies inspect your home on behalf of federal, state and local governments for code compliance. Evidence of this inspection is normally the application of a federal, state or inspection agency label of approval.

One of the advantages of Manufactured and Modular Housing is the reduced start to finish time of the project. While your home is being constructed in a climate controlled environment, foundation and utility work can take place on site. When the manufacturing process is complete the interior finish from the walls, countertops and cabinetry right down to the carpet are typically installed. Both Manufactured and Modular Housing are transported to the site and quickly assembled, insuring minimal weather exposure. Once the sections of your house are assembled, the connection of utilities and a short list of interior finish work complete your new house.

Single section manufactured homes are built to the same federal standard (HUD code) as multi-section homes. The Federal Manufactured Home Construction Safety Standards ensures your single section home is a safe and sound investment. As with multi-section homes it regulates the design, construction, structural durability, transportability, fire resistance and energy efficiency of a home. It also prescribes performance standards for the mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. Single section manufactured homes are built and shipped on metal frames. Single section homes enjoy the same benefits of efficiency and quality through factory assembly as multi-section homes. Single section manufactured homes provide highly affordable housing when compared to conventional construction. Many single section homes are considerably less per square foot than site-built product. While single section homes can be located on private property, many times they are located in manufactured housing developments which boast an array of amenities to enhance your lifestyle.

Park models are temporary quarters built on a frame which are generally used in resort or vacation locations. They are not large enough for a primary residence, but are just the right size for a family get-away. Since park models can be used for extended periods of time, they typically include many amenities for enhanced livability. Although they are small in appearance they can be fully appointed inside. Park models less than 400 sq. ft. of total living area are governed by the ANSI Standard A119.5. It is a national safety standard which lists safety requirements for fire and life safety, construction, electrical and LP gas usage. Park models more than 400 sq. ft. of total living area are built to the same federal standard (HUD code) as single section and multi-section manufactured homes. The Federal Manufactured Home Construction Safety Standards regulates the design, construction, structural durability, transportability, fire resistance and energy efficiency of these park models. It also prescribes performance standards for the mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems. Skyline park models enjoy the same benefits of efficiency and quality through factory assembly as single section and multi-section manufactured homes. They also feature the same high quality materials. The park model lifestyle is commonly referred to as destination camping. Park models provide private accommodations typically located within several hours drive from a primary residence. They are the perfect way to "get away from it all" and enjoy all the benefits a park model has to offer.
